Chown brings sound of horn, leads band’s centennial celebration
ESCANABA — Meet Amy Chown, the Escanaba City Band’s fabulous French horn player. Chown originally played with the City Band from 1980 to 1984, during her college years, and rejoined in 2022 after returning to Escanaba. Now retired from a successful career in marketing, branding, and PR, she’s putting her expertise to good use by chairing the City Band’s Centennial.
Chown’s favorite part of being in the City Band is when the French horn section takes the melody in a pop or show tunes medley or plays a fun march counter-melody. Playing gigs with her dad adds an extra layer of joy to her musical journey.
When she’s not playing music, you can find Chown walking her golden retriever, Sully, at Ludington Park; kayaking on Lake Michigan and the Ford River; or tackling the daily New York Times Spelling Bee.
