ESCANABA — According to Entertainer Jon Sampson, “I grew up in a musical family. Mom played a B3, and Dad played drums and was a vocalist.” Having grown up in show business, Jon took to the stage by age 10, more than 40 years ago. “Nothing surprises me. I haven’t seen it all, but close! I could write a book…or movie.”
Like his dad, Jon is a singer/drummer. With his trademark humor, he says his vocal range “depends on how the stars are aligned and barometric pressure, but usually baritone-tenor.” He prefers Oldies, Classic Country, and… Elvis.
“I was a professional Elvis impersonator for 12 years,” says Jon. He performed at thousands of venues including cruise ships and the Grand Ole Opry. “The last full Elvis concert I gave was over 20 years ago.”
In later years he “incorporated Elvis in my stage performances, but only two or three songs with a cheap wig and no Elvis jumpsuit.” Fast forward to last year when, “after careful consideration and much thought and prayer,” Jon decided to resurrect Mr. Presley and now offers a 2-hour concert, in full Elvis attire.
“I’ve been blessed with so many awesome experiences and opportunities, it would be difficult to narrow it down to one or two. Every gig, small or huge, is always an adventure. Stay tuned for further developments. God Bless you all.”
