Outdoor open mic in Gladstone

GLADSTONE — The City of Gladstone and The Music Co-op of Delta County have teamed up to sponsor an outdoor Open Mic this summer. The free event will take place at the Gladstone Beach House on Saturday, June 15 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Young and old alike are encouraged to participate, whether solo or as part of a group. All genres of music will be welcome, as long as the lyrics are family-friendly.

Christopher Wolf will serve as master of ceremonies, introducing each act. The sound system will be provided by The Music Co-op and operated by veteran sound guy, Matt Rockweit. A keyboard and other instruments will be available for use by those who cannot bring their own.

Performers are encouraged to play two songs, and have a third ready in case there’s a lull in the action. And if a budding comedian would like a few minutes at the mic, that’s okay, too. Variety is the spice of life.

Audience members are asked to bring their own seating and refreshments. There will, however, be food vendors on the grounds. To add to the festivities, June’s Booth Bus will be onsite offering free photo sessions to commemorate the event.

In order to secure a preferred time slot and ensure a steady stream of entertainment, participants are asked to sign up in advance. To do so, they may email lois.corcoran57@gmail.com or call 906.428.2843 and leave a message.

“If all goes as planned,” said City Manager Eric Buckman, “this could become a regular event.” Dew Drop owner Amanda Phillips has also offered to host future open mics.

The Music Co-op is a free network for local musicians to find each other, promote their gigs, buy/sell/trade equipment, etc. For more information, visit its Facebook page at: The Music Co-op – Delta County.
