Melissa Kleiman and Erik Schafer

ITHACA, Mich. — Melissa Kleiman and Erik Schafer announce their engagement.

Melissa is the daughter of Brian and Christie Kleiman of Bark River, and Erik is the son of Alan and Pam Schafer of Ithaca, Mich., and the late Maria Schafer of Sweden.

Melissa is a 2001 Escanaba High School graduate, as well as a 2007 graduate of Central Michigan University with a bachelors in science and education, and a 2013 graduate of Grand Canyon University with a masters in special education.

Erik is a 2004 Ithaca High School graduate, as well as a 2008 graduate of Central Michigan University with a bachelors in science and business.

The couple is currently residing in Ithaca, Mich. Melissa is employed by Claire-Gladwin School in Claire, Mich., as a special education teacher, and Erik is employed by the State of Michigan.

The couple is planning a Oct. 7 wedding in Midland, Mich.
