Lantagnes celebrate 70th anniversary

ESCANABA -- More than 100 friends and family of Orville and Mary Lou Lantagne joined with the couple as they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at the Pioneer Trail Park Pavilion in Gladstone.

Orville and the former Mary Lou Royer were married on July 28, 1956 during a ceremony held at St. Thomas Parish in Escanaba. Attending the couple were: Ron and Joan Lantagne, brother and sister-in-law of the groom; Jon and Marlene Servant, sister and brother-in-law of the groom; and Art and Vickie LaFave. Art is the groom’s cousin and Vickie is a friend of the bride.

Orville worked for the former Harnischfeger Corporation for 20 years. He retired in June 2004 from Thilmany Paper Company as a maintenance supervisor. He also was the lead singer in the New Country Squires Band for over 30 years, playing in area bars as well as for weddings and other special occasions. His wife is a homemaker. Orville was also the front man for the band Ghostriders, who played at their celebration and of which Orville is still a member.

Orville and Mary Lou enjoy trips to the casino, Mary enjoys bingo and both Orville and both are members of St. Anthony’s Parish in Wells.

The Lantagnes are the parents of six children: Darryl (Trudy) Langtagne of Menasha, Wis.; Cindy (Steve) Miron of Gladstone; Dawn (Cory) VanVonDoran of Oshkosh, Wis.; Orville (Mary) Lantagne of Redgranite, Wis.; and Mark Lantagne of Little Chute, Wis.; and Brent Lantagne, who died in 1983.

They also have 16 grandchildren as well as 24 great-grandchildren.
