ESCANABA — Paul Jacobs, DDS, Diplomate, ABDSM, was recently installed as president of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) – the leading national professional organization representing dentists who treat obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. He began his two-year term during the AADSM’s membership meeting in Chicago on May 2, 2026.

“Dr. Jacobs has proven time and again his dedication for the dental sleep medicine field and improving outcomes for patients with sleep apnea and snoring,” said Dr. Kevin Postol, the AADSM’s immediate past president. “His knowledge of oral appliance therapy, combined with his sincere interest in emerging technology, makes him the perfect person to lead the AADSM at this time.”

A third-generation dentist, Dr. Jacobs owns a general, cosmetic and dental sleep medicine practice in Escanaba. He is particularly passionate about improving access to dental sleep medicine for patients in rural or medically underserved areas, along with uninsured or underinsured patients.

“Over the course of my career, I’ve seen how important dental sleep medicine is for patients who seek options for sleep apnea treatment,” Dr. Jacobs said. “As AADSM president, I look forward to expanding awareness of dental sleep medicine and embracing emerging technologies – both of which serve to increase sleep apnea treatment rates nationwide.”

Dr. Jacobs graduated from the University of Detroit School of Dentistry in 1983 and has been practicing ever since. He previously served as secretary-treasurer and director-at-large on the AADSM Board of Directors. He co-chaired the inaugural AADSM Practice Management Course, served on the AADSM Accreditation Committee, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM).
