MARSP meeting in Manistique

MANISTIQUE — Today, MARSP members will gather at the 40 Bar and Grill at 100 S 2nd St for their monthly luncheon meeting. Socializing begins at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served at noon.

ESCANABA — The Delta County Republicans will be meeting on Thursday at room 421 in the BHAT Building of Bay College. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m., and attendees will discuss local issues and share upcoming events and ways to get involved. The public is welcome to attend.

Child abuse prevention

ESCANABA — For Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month in April, Welcome Newborns — a nonprofit program that services Menominee, Delta, and Schoolcraft counties — invites everyone to wear the color blue on Friday.

Head Start will be displaying pinwheels for prevention, representing a commitment to supporting families and strengthening communities.

Welcome Newborns has a mission to promote the well-being of children, improve parent and child relations and to prevent child abuse and neglect. Anyone looking to help or donate can contact the program coordinator at 906-786-7080 ext. 124.

The organization reminds people that everyone that every child has the right to grow up safe, loved, and nurtured.

Young’s grand re-opening

ESCANABA — Young’s Menwear is hosting a grand re-opening in its new location — 1016 Ludington St. in Escanaba — on Friday, with an open house from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The local business invites the public to attend and enjoy snacks, sales, community and the chance to win a $500 gift basket.

Harlie’s Angels rummage sale

ESCANABA – Harlie’s Angels will be having a rummage sale on Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wellspring Church located in the Delta Plaza Mall in Escanaba. Shoppers are asked to use the parking lot by Dunham’s.

Harlie’s Angels is a non-profit group that helps teens in need in Delta County.

Escanaba Kiwanis Club Spring Expo

ESCANABA – Registration materials for the Escanaba Kiwanis Club’s Spring Expo vendor show are now available at their website, EscanabaKiwanis.org, by emailing a request to Kiwanis.SpringExpo@gmail.com or by leaving a message at 906-786-6013.

The Spring Expo will take place Friday through Sunday. In previous years, the Spring Expo was known as the Home and Garden Show.

Delta County Cancer Alliance Luminary event

ESCANABA — The Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA) will be holding their annual Luminary event Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Blessed Hope Baptist Church, 2530 14th Ave S.

Doors will open at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., the the luminary bags will be displayed followed by a ceremony of “Memory and Honor”.

There will be tables filled with art supplies and luminary bags that can be purchased to individually decorate. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.

If you would like to decorate bags but cannot be at the event, they will be available at the DCCA office, 3430 Ludington Street. Payment will be accepted when completed to be displayed either at the office or the day of the event.

Hunter Safety class

ESCANABA — A Hunter Safety Traditional class will be held at the Great Lakes Sports & Recreation Club on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Those wishing to attend can sign up online (http://michigan.gov/dnr). This class is 14 hours and part of the class is held outdoors.

Lakeview accepting items for rummage sale

Lakeview Cemetery is accepting donations for its annual rummage sale. Bay de Noc Choral Society spring concert

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Choral Society will present their annual spring concert on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 202 South 11th Street in Escanaba. The concert is entitled “A Rutter Celebration” with all works except one written by John Rutter, a famous British composer and choirmaster.

A free will offering will serve as admission.

Soo Line monthly meeting

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine No. 730 Authority will have its regular monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 13 at 819 Delta Ave, Solid Rock Church.

As winter winds down, the group is entering its spring restoration phase while preparing for its biggest annual fundraiser — the 4-person golf scramble on May 28 at the Escanaba Country Club.

The nonprofit continues to seek donations for perpetual care of the steam engine into the future. New donations can be made for the future Gladstone/Soo Line Historical Museum, as land is still being sought and building plans are being formalized.

Donations are always accepted by the Community Foundation for Delta County, 2420 First Ave. S. in Escanaba. Checks may be made out in care of Soo Line No. 730.

Anyone in the community interested in joining the group is encouraged to attend its regular meetings on the second Monday of each month. Authority President John Pickard, 906-241-0888, can offer details.

Parkinson support group to meet

ESCANABA – The Michigan Parkinson Foundation support group for Escanaba and the surrounding areas meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 at the Community Action Agency, 507 1st Ave. North in Escanaba.

Everyone is welcome to attend – people with Parkinson’s, their families and caregivers.

ESCANABA – Eagles Auxiliary #1088 will hold nominations for officers at their meeting on Wednesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. meeting for June 2026 to May 2027. If you are unable to attend the meeting, a letter of intent to nominate someone for an office must be sent to Auxiliary Secretary Judy Deloria before the start of the meeting.

Bay Sages monthly meeting

ESCANABA – The regular monthly meeting of Bay Sages will be held Thursday, April 16, at 10 a.m. in the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay de Noc Community College.

Bay Sages is an organization established to provide educational opportunities for older adults residing in the Delta County area. Dues are $20 for the year and include monthly meetings, coffee and cookies and a wide variety of educational opportunities for members. Dues are payable at the meeting or can be mailed to Bay Sages at Bay College.

Guests and new members are always welcome to attend. This month’s speaker will be Phil Lynch, who will perform selections from his album, “Growing Older: Songs for the Second Act,” which explores the joys, challenges and reflections of life after 50.

Food items for the Bay College Food Pantry are gratefully accepted at all meetings.

The Bay Sages board will meet after the presentation. Bay Safes is currently in need of a president and vice president.

Northern Lights YMCA celebrates Healthy Kids Day

ESCANABA — The Northern Lights YMCA invites families to celebrate Healthy Kids Day 2026 on Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the YMCA, 2000 North 30th Street in Escanaba.

Healthy Kids Day offers children the chance to participate in games, activities, and educational experiences focused on fitness, nutrition, and overall well-being. Families will also have the opportunity to learn more about YMCA programs, including youth sports, day camps and other community offerings.

Following the event, free swim will be available from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the YMCA Aquatic Center.

Gladstone Lions Club to hold Spring Social

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Lions Club, in partnership with Bay de Noc Lions, will hold their annual Spring Social on Saturday, April 18 at the Terrace Bluff Country Club in Gladstone.

Doors to the event will open at 7 p.m., and the band “Borrowed Time” – a group made up of local musicians – will begin at 8 p.m.

The event will feature bucket raffles, a silent auction, 50/50 raffles and a card raffle to win a number of firearms. Proceeds from the Spring Social will benefit the purchase of a new Fire Safety House for the Delta County Fire Chiefs Association.

Gladstone Public Library Spring Story Hour

Friends of the Gladstone Library candlelight dinner

GLADSTONE — The annual Friends of the Gladstone Library Candlelight Dinner will be held Saturday, April 25, at 6 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

The dinner will be catered by Matt Wiles Catering. Events at the dinner will include a “Share the Wealth” raffle, quilt and gift card raffle, book prizes and entertainment.

This year’s special raffle is for either a quilt donated and created by Margaret Noreus or $100 gift certificate. Tickets for the dinner must be purchased by April 11. All tickets can be purchased at the library or from a Friend of the Library member.

The public is invited to the dinner. Proceeds help fund the library and activities and programs for the community, especially children, such as story hours and the summer reading programs.

Marquette Choral Society concerts

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Choral Society (MCS) will present its Magnificent Mozart concerts at 7:30 p.m. on April 25 and at 3 p.m. on April 26 in the Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette.

The singers will perform Mozart’s famed Coronation Mass in C Major and Mozart’s Vesperae solonnes de confessore.

The concert will also feature orchestra and soloists Keri Lee Pierson, Erin Sura, Tony Beacco and Alexander Romero-Wilson.

Spring Tree Sale pickup delayed

ESCANABA — The Delta Conservation District has announced that the Spring Tree Sale pickup originally scheduled for April 24 and April 25 has been rescheduled to the following weekend, May 1 and May 2, due to weather-related delays affecting nursery availability.

Tree sale pickup will now take place at the UP State Fairgrounds in Barn #10 during the following times:

Friday, May 1: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday, May 2: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Customers who placed orders through the annual tree sale are asked to plan to pick up their trees during the rescheduled dates and times.

Anyone who is unable to pick up their trees during the designated pickup window is encouraged to contact the Delta Conservation District to make alternate arrangements by calling 906-553-7700.

2026 U.P. State Fair market per-registration

ESCANABA — The 2026 Upper Peninsula State Fair (UPSF) market pre-registration for swine, lamb and goat is now open. Pre-registration forms must be submitted online no later than May 1.

Forms can be found at upstatefair.net. Exhibitors are encouraged to regularly check the UPSF website and Facebook page for updates.

DNA submission and YQCA certification are due May 27. The 2026 Fair Book will be published online by May 15 or sooner. Online registration opens June 1. Final online market animal registration is due July 1.

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival.

They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested. Funds from the annual sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.

Delta County Cancer Alliance seeks Donations

ESCANABA — The Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA) is in need of bed pads. Many of the DCCA’s clients who are going through cancer treatments appreciate the convenience of using bed pads for comfort and cleanliness at a very challenging time. The DCCA will accept donations at their office, 3430 Ludington St, Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ESCANABA — The Delta Animal Shelter is in need of the following donations; Purina Cat Chow (blue bag), Purina Kitten Chow (yellow bag), NutriSource chicken/rice dog food, Purina One chicken/rice dog food, canned dog food, canned cat/kitten food, soft dog treats, scoopable cat litter, clay cat litter, bleach, liquid Lysol, paper towels, dish soap, garbage bags, power laundry detergent, hand sanitizer and dog collars/leashes.

The shelter is currently caring for many rabbits and is particularly in need of rabbit food and hay.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 6975 County Road, 426 M 5, during business hours of 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or outside the building in their donation box.

GLADSTONE — The Memorial United Methodist Church, 1920 Lake Shore Drive in Gladstone, has a free clothes closet with coats, and shoes available in most sizes.
