GLADSTONE — Delta County venues are well-known for featuring local bands, but one of them has opened its doors to younger musicians as well.
This summer, the Dewdrop Restaurant in Gladstone launched a new event called Kidz Boppin.
“We’ve collaborated with Reflections Band to provide an opportunity for kids to showcase their talents,” owner Amanda Phillips said.
Reflections Band member Cindy Collins coordinates the lineup of children who perform live. “It will be their time to shine,” she said.
Collins gives guitar and drum lessons, and some of her students were featured at the first event. But the showcase is open to all area kids ages 5 to 18 with any musical talent.
Five children took part at the inaugural concert. The relaxed atmosphere of the Dewdrop helped keep stage fright at bay. Mady Ellison sang and played guitar, as did Archer McGraw and Roxy West. Drummers included Isabel Delveaux, Jayne West, and Archer McGraw. Each of them earned generous applause from restaurant patrons as well as a Dewdrop gift certificate for their efforts.
“A huge thank you to Cindy Collins for following my vision and making it happen,” Phillips posted on Facebook. “All of the upcoming, young musicians were given the opportunity to show their passion, and it was truly felt throughout the building. Thank you to all the kids for performing and their families and friends for supporting.”
The next Kidz Boppin is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday. To sign up or for more information, call or text Collins at 906-399-4524 or message her on Facebook.
“I will help with backtracks if needed or anything else!” she said.
