Lipparts celebrate 60th anniversary

Peg and Tom Lippart

ESCANABA — Long-standing residents of Escanaba, Margaret (Peg) and Tom Lippart, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 17, 2021. They were married in Newark, Del. and are celebrated by their daughters’ Christi (Stephen) and Becky (Craig) and four grandchildren, Quincy and Ivy and Elliot and Avery.

Tom and Peg met while growing up in the same neighborhood in Prospect Park, Penn. Moving and college separated them for several years but they kept the memory of each other in their hearts. Tom went on to Michigan Tech University to earn his metallurgical engineering degree and also spend time in the Air Force. Peg moved to Delaware and earned her teaching degree at University of Delaware. During her time at University of Delaware she and Tom reconnected and a romance blossomed. Several weeks after Peg graduated with her degree, while Tom was in the Air Force, they married and moved to Wright-Patt Air Force base in Ohio. It was not long after that that Tom felt called to become an Episcopal minister. They packed up and moved to Wisconsin to continue Tom’s education at the Nashotah House seminary while Peg supported him by teaching. Tom’s time spent in Houghton, Mich. at MTU cemented his love for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, so soon after he was ordained and they had their second child, they received word that he was to serve as the rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal church of Crystal Falls, Mich. However, Tom’s childhood love of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay continued to call him to the water, and so in 1974 they moved to Escanaba where Tom served as rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and Peg taught in the Escanaba Area Public Schools until they both retired in 1997. There they were active in the community, raised their daughters and spent their days sailing and skiing and enjoying all that the U.P. has to offer.

Today they reside in Vero Beach, Fla. but plan to move to Hummelstown, Pa. to be closer to daughter Becky in the near future. They continue to exemplify the love, adventure and team-work that are the cornerstones of their 60 years of marriage.

Happy anniversary Mom and Dad! Love from all of us!
