NMU icers sweep Tech

MARQUETTE -- Senior goaltender Atte Tolvanen set two school records as Northern Michigan University's hockey team swept Michigan Tech with a 3-0 victory here Saturday on Senior Night.

By starting in goal, Tolvanen set a new school record for games played for a goalie with 133 in his career. With the shutout, he also set a new NMU record with 13 career shutouts.

He finished with 20 saves and is now just 12 saves away from the career saves mark, finishing the weekend with 78 saves after setting a single-game record of 58 saves Friday in a 4-2 victory at Tech.

Troy Loggins scored two of NMU's goals and Mitchell Slattery had the other.

Matt Jurusik made 21 saves for the Huskies (14-18-4, 13-12-3-1 GLIAC).

The win secured the Wildcats (19-14-2, 18-8-2 GLIAC) the No. 2 seed in the WCHA playoffs and a first round home series against the University of Alaska Fairbanks this weekend.

Tech travels to Bowling Green for its first round of the playoffs this weekend.
