Gladstone tops field in invite

GLADSTONE -- Coach Dane Quigley was in a good mood after Monday's Gladstone Boys Invitational at Terrace Bluff Golf Club.
And why not, Gladstone finished first on a nice April day for the season opener.
"You couldn't ask for a better day," said Quigley, the Gladstone boys' coach. "It's always nice to take first in your own tournament. I thought we played well."
Gladstone had a winning score of 227, followed by Escanaba 230, Marquette 254, Munising 288, Negaunee 309 and Manistique 312.
The invitational was a best-ball format. Each school had three two-man teams playing best ball on each hole, with all three teams final scores going toward the school's total.
Gladstone's Bryce Douglas and Jared Ness combined for the best score of 67. They were followed by two Escanaba duos -- John Kositzky and Brett McDonough with a 73 and Nathan Rousseau and Trevor Denome with a 75.
Finishing fourth were Marquette's Tyler Bergwell and Ethan Sellers with a 79 and placing fifth were Gladstone's Jordan Ahlgren and Kyle Darmogray with a 79.
"It was a good start to the season," Quigley said. "We will only improve from here.
