ESCANABA -- Located in downtown Escanaba, the Dream Day Event Center provides many different goods and services for people preparing for weddings and other events.
Office Manager Gayle Johnson said the center has been operating for more than 10 years. Its owner is Ray Krusic of Green Bay.
The center's history began with a bridal store run by a business partner of Krusic's elsewhere on Ludington Street.
"Ray had a business partner … and she had the bridal store down at that other end," Johnson said. This store was located in the building now being used as Mo's Pub.
In 2005, Johnson said Krusic bought the building at 1018 Ludington Street where the Dream Day Event Center is currently located.
"It started out as JCPenney back in the day," she said of the building.
The Dream Day Event Center is home to multiple businesses offering products and services related to special events. One of these businesses is Dream Day Bridal, which is also owned by Krusic and focuses on formal wear.
"We have bridal, tuxedos, bridesmaids, moms, flower girls and then all the accessories to go with it," Johnson said. Along with its space on the center's main floor, Dream Day Bridal has a large bridal suite on the center's upper level.
Other businesses with a presence in the Dream Day Event Center include Dream Day Salon & Spa, Black Iris Studio, Total Mind Body/Massage Works, Nails by Mary Rae and Jane's Denim and Lace. According to Johnson, each of these businesses (with the exception of Dream Day Bridal) pays rent to use space in the center.
"It's just like having a little mini-mall," she said.
Johnson said the Dream Day Event Center does not have any large-scale plans for the future beyond continuing to do what it has been doing. She also said most of the center's space is in use.
"We have everything pretty much all filled up," Johnson said.
