GLADSTONE — Located on Gladstone’s Lake Bluff, Terrace Bluff Golf Club has long offered golfers living in and visiting the area a chance to enjoy their sport of choice.

Owner Tony Pouliot said Terrace Bluff was not always known by its current name.

“The Terrace started as Lake Bluff Country Club in 1970,” he said. It was established by a group of local investors; originally, it operated as a private club.

The club was taken over by the Pouliot family later that decade after it went into receivership.

“My father (Marv) got it out of bankruptcy court in 1977, and we’ve been operating it ever since,” Pouliot said.

Since 1977, people have been able to golf at Terrace Bluff without a membership.

“It’s always been open to the public since we’ve operated it,” Pouliot said.

According to Pouliot, several changes have been made at Terrace Bluff to keep up with the golf industry over the years.

“We’ve added a state-of-the-art irrigation system,” he said. The installation of this system was completed about nine years ago.

Other changes made to the club’s golf course over the past 15 years have included renovations to the course (such as the addition of forward tees) and the annual purchasing of new golf course maintenance equipment.

Pouliot said these improvements have played an important role in encouraging people to come to Terrace Bluff.

“With all these changes comes a better product for the golfing public,” he said.

Business at Terrace Bluff has been strong as of late, Pouliot said. However, he noted the course’s level of usage is tied to weather conditions.

The current state of the economy has helped bring people to Terrace Bluff, Pouliot said.

“Since the economy has picked up, the golf business has picked up, as well,” he said.

Terrace Bluff also has banquet facilities which can accommodate up to 250 people.

“Our main business, obviously, is golf, but we do do functions upstairs,” Pouliot said. Events held in this space include banquets, weddings, class reunions, high school graduations, and corporate outings.

Additionally, Terrace Bluff features “The 19th Hole” (a bar and restaurant), a pro shop, tennis courts, and an outdoor heated pool.

In the future, Pouliot said Terrace Bluff will continue working to stay up-to-date with trends in the golf industry.

“As the industry changes, we have to change … conditions, pricing (and) services,” he said.

He noted the club will keep emphasizing value and customer service.

“Customer service has always been on the forefront of our daily operations,” he said.
