Granger Smith

ESCANABA — The Upper Peninsula State Fair has announced its first musical act for the 2018 fair. Country musician Granger Smith will hit the grandstand stage in Escanaba on Friday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m.

Smith is best known for his hit singles “Backroad Song,” “It Happens Like that,” and “If the Boot Fits.”

According to Smith’s website, the country star was born in Texas and taught himself to play guitar at age 14.

By the time Smith was 15, he was performing weekends on small town stages in North Texas.

Smith also goes by his alter-ego, “Earl Dibbles Jr.” The character was created by Smith and his younger brother, Tyler, in 2011 as a way to help promote his music.

After signing a record deal in 2015, his debut single “Backroad Song” was a hit on mainstream country radio. In Feb. 2016, the single became the most played in America.

Over the span of his rapidly rising career, Smith and his band have traveled and played in 10 countries, three continents, and even the White House.

Limited Gold Circle seats are available for the Friday night concert. The performance is presented by the Island Resort and Casino.
