More charges for inmate serving time
ESCANABA — An Escanaba man, currently serving time in prison for larceny, was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court on four felonies relating to sexual assaults on a minor child in Escanaba in 2016.
Jacob Allen Christopher Jones, 19, was sentenced last summer to two years to 10 years in prison for robbing $268 from a local motel clerk held at knifepoint on Aug. 15, 2016. He is one of four Escanaba males who conspired to rob the Quality Inn and Suites on North Lincoln Road.
Jones, who is currently lodged at the Chippewa Correctional Facility, was recently arrested on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor less than 13 years old stemming from incidents in Escanaba during August 2016. Each count carries a maximum punishment of life in prison.
Jones is also charged with one count of using a computer to commit a crime with a maximum punishment of four years to 10 years (a seven-year felony with a maximum fine of $5,000) and one count of encouraging a child for immoral purposes (a four-year felony with a maximum fine of $4,000).
Following Escanaba Public Safety’s investigation into the alleged assaults, a warrant for Jones’ arrest was authorized in 2017. His bond was set at $100,000 cash.
The four felony counts were recently bound over from district court to circuit court where a pretrial conference hearing is scheduled for April 9 when Jones may make a plea or set a trial date.
