New clinic dedicated in Gladstone

GLADSTONE -- The new Gladstone OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group facility was blessed Wednesday during a special ceremony with hospital staff, officials, and others in attendance. Hospital Chaplain Father Emmett Norden blessed the facility with holy water and recited a prayer.

The sale of the property for the construction of the new hospital became official at a special Gladstone City Commission meeting on Sept. 28, 2016. Ground broke for the structure in late October of last year and has been under construction ever since.

The facility features top of the line technology for x-rays, screenings, and other health procedures.

According to Kelly Jefferson, vice president of operations for OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group, the opening of the building allows for an OSF presence in Gladstone.

"The opening of this building will bring one OSF presence to Gladstone," said Jefferson during the ceremony. "This is truly a day to be celebrated."

Prior to opening, Gladstone had two separate OSF practices for 21 years -- one for family and another for rehab services. The medical group is now located at 145 4th Ave. in northeast Gladstone, across from the Gladstone Public Safety building.

The $5 million, 18,000-square foot facility features two state of the art rooms that will allow physicians to perform minor surgeries, said Jefferson.

Other services include occupational therapy, lung care, audiology booth, occupational health, along with the current family and rehab care.

In addition, 15 brand new exam rooms are now available at the facility, explained Jefferson, adding there is also a top of line fitness center located there.

"We look forward to serving our community in this way," said Jefferson.

President of OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group Dave Lord also offered remarks Wednesday, congratulating the hospital staff and others involved with the project on the completion of the structure.

"Welcome everybody and thank you for taking the time to celebrate with us," said Lord. "This building is really and truly a gift."

Lord also offered thanks to the city of Gladstone, Delta County Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Alliance, and many others for their time and dedication to making the facility a reality.

During his speech, Lord explained the sisters of OSF have been serving Delta County for 133 years and have been dedicated to healing and helping those in need, adding he looks forward to the same being done at the new Gladstone facility.

"The building of this facility is another example of that commitment," said Lord.

An open house was also held for the new structure Wednesday, allowing the public to view and tour the hospital.
