House of Ludington project still alive

ESCANABA — A project to redevelop the House of Ludington in Escanaba into affordable housing continues to seek state tax credits through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).

LC Consultants, LLC, of Ann Arbor, is proposing to purchase and redevelop the historic hotel and restaurant into 34 one- and two-bedroom senior apartments and also convert a neighboring parcel into a parking lot. The project includes properties at 233 Ludington St. and 216 1st Ave. S.

MSHDA had denied two previous requests for the project under a different developer. LC Consultants’ October 2016 tax credit application was also denied, but the multi-million-dollar project was resubmitted for consideration in the April 2017 funding round.

An announcement is expected in early July on the projects approved for low income housing tax credits, a MSHDA spokesperson told the Daily Press.
