GLADSTONE -- The Gladstone Sports Park will soon have a 54-hole disc golf course with the help of a new crowdfunding campaign, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, city of Gladstone and Noc Bay Flyers Disc Golf Club announced. Offered through Michigan-based crowdfunding platform Patronicity, the project will increase recreational opportunities for residents and attract visitors to the city.
If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $25,000 by Oct. 6, the project will win a matching grant with funds made possible by MEDC's Public Spaces Community Places program. For project details and to donate, visit: https://www.patronicity.com/project/gladstone_disc_golf_park#!/.
"Public Spaces Community Places is a great tool for communities to create new recreational opportunities for their residents and visitors to engage with," said MEDC's Vice President of Community Development Katharine Czarnecki. "We are pleased to be able to partner in this effort to install a new disc golf course that will become an outdoor destination and improve the activities of the entire park."
The project requires the construction of the course to include clearing and cutting of park space, installing tee pads, proper signage, and baskets, and improving the landscaping within the area. Disc golf is an engaging sport that anyone can be a part of at a low cost and adds value and an attraction to a park.
"We are excited to continue the growth of disc golf in Delta County and create exciting recreation opportunities for residents and travelers to the area," said Noc Bay Flyers Disc Golf Club secretary Rick Elrod. "The course will allow our community to host many events throughout the year including championship level tournaments that will bring thousands of people to the community and have a significant economic impact."
Public Spaces Community Places is a collaborative effort of the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League, and Patronicity in which local residents can use crowdfunding to be part of the development of strategic projects in their communities and be backed with a matching grant from MEDC.
