Wells Lions Club weekly raffle winner named
WELLS -- The winner of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of Nov. 5 is Jack Way of Wells. Way won $100. This was week 14 of the raffle.
Amvets to host band Angels & Outlaws
ESCANABA -- Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring country and variety band Angels & Outlaws band from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. The public is welcome to attend.
Legion Post 115 to meet Nov. 12 in Arnold
ARNOLD -- The Escanaba River American Legion Post 115 and the Auxiliary will meet at the Wells School in Arnold at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 for a program and a regular meeting.
Annual Hunters' Turkey Dinner set for Nov. 17
RAPID RIVER -- The Annual Hunters' Turkey Dinner will be held at the Walter W. Cole Post 301 in Rapid River on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. Children age 4 and under eat free.
Children Museum to hold space event
MARQUETTE -- Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum's Second Thursday Creativity Series, titled “Space,” will take place Thursday, Nov. 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
There will be a variety of hands-on activities that celebrate space, including crafts and creative snacks. The event will feature live music and there will be free custard from Culver's.
Erin Schmidt benefit planned in Bark River
BARK RIVER -- A benefit will be held for Erin (Connor) Schmidt on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Bark River Senior Center, 4283 D Rd. Bark River. The event will feature a spaghetti dinner, bake sale, raffles, and a 50/50 drawing.
Schmidt is a 24-year-old mother, wife, and Escanaba native that was recently diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and has a long road ahead of her, including several extensive surgeries, radiation and hormone treatments. Donations will assist Schmidt and her family with medical and travel expenses.
Kiwanis club meets weekly on Wednesdays
GLADSTONE -- The Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis Club holds its weekly meetings each Wednesday at 7 a.m at First Lutheran Church, located at 1212 Minneapolis Ave. in Gladstone.
The Kiwanis Club welcomes new members who desire to support children. If you are interested in helping fill weekend food backpacks for the 150 school children who would have little or no food to eat on weekends without these backpacks, the club welcomes your assistance. Each Wednesday at 3 p.m., members meet at Gladstone High School to fill weekend food backpacks for the Rapid River School and the four Gladstone schools. Members also deliver the food to the five schools.

ESCANABA -- Fitness chair exercises to improve strength, stretching, balance, flexibility and muscle will be held every Monday and Friday at 11 a.m. at the Escanaba Senior Center. Sign in at the office. The event is free.
