Band performs tonight
ESCANABA --The Cedar Creek Country Band is scheduled to perform live tonight at the AMVETS Hall in Escanaba from 7 to 11 p.m. A donation will be accepted at the door. A meat raffle will be held, along with a $25 door prize. All are welcome.
Benoit Bash for Bay
Cliff Health Camp
ESCANABA -- The 9th Annual Benoit Bash for Bay Cliff Health Camp will take place on Saturday, Sept. 9. This is a benefit to support Bay Cliff Health Camp, a non-profit wellness camp located in Big Bay, Mich. that offers year-round programs that promote wellness for children and adults with physical disabilities.
The event is free with bucket raffles, food, bounce houses, live music, dunk tank and much more.
The event begins at noon and runs until midnight with family time from noon till 6 p.m. Bring a dish to pass a chair and BYOB. Located in Soo Hill at 7021 M.5 Lane.

St. Thomas pasty sale
ESCANABA -- St. Thomas will hold a pasty sale on Sept. 11-12, from 2 to 5 p.m. Plain pasties or pasties with rutabaga are available for a fee. Pasties can be picked up at St. Thomas Parish Hall, 1820 9th Ave N., Escanaba.
To place an order, call Craig or Mary at 786-7053 by 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Fall festival at St. Rita
Parish in Trenary
TRENARY -- St. Rita Parish of Trenary will hold its 70th annual fall festival on the parish grounds on Sunday, Sept. 10. A harvest dinner featuring turkey with all the trimmings and home-made pie will be served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parish hall. There is a cost to attend, with children under five eating for free. Take out dinners will be available.
Special games for young and old alike will be featured on the grounds, including bingo. There will be a silver dollar game, craft and baked goods booth, a refreshment stand and music by "Mary Lynn & Doug." A raffle drawing will be at 4 p.m. Sunday Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Open house at Esky
Public Library Sept. 9
ESCANABA -- The Friends of the Escanaba Public Library will hold an open house on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Demonstrations of online learning tools such as Mango Languages, the Michigan e-Library and Bookflix will be featured, as well as on-site tours of the library. Special activities include: demonstration on preparing healthy lunches and snacks, storytelling, drumming circle for all ages, and a make-and-take book bag. Each child that attends will receive a free book, while supplies last. There will also be give-aways and drawings for school supply gift cards.

Esky Township Fire
Department open house
GLADSTONE -- The Escanaba Township Fire Department will hold an open house on Sunday, Sept. 10, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Besse Fire Hall, 8189 P.5 Road, Gladstone. The hall is located at 8189 P.5 Road, which is just north of Fernwood Cemetery, or from M-35, head south at the light at Cameron School.
There will be firefighting demonstrations, along with live fire extinguisher training, an ambulance, and State Police car. The Valley Medical Helicopter will also land. Also available will be a bounce house, dunk tank, raffles, hot dogs and drinks. The public is welcome.
