Soaring Eagles, Black Bears split soccer, volleyball doubleheader
GARDEN CORNERS — Northern Light League action continues to roll in 2024. Tuesday saw Big bay de Noc host Hannahville for a soccer and volleyball doubleheader. Here’s what went down.
The Soaring Eagles tripped to Big Bay de Noc for their third game of the season, possessing 8-0 and 7-0 wins at Beaver Island. And after a 0-0 tie entering intermission Hannahville found traction on offense. The Soaring Eagles earned a 3-1 win to hand the Black Bears their first loss of the season.
The Black Bears host Munising Baptist at 5:30 Tuesday. The Soaring Eagles host Mackinac Island at 5 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
On the hardwood the Black Bears bested the Soaring Eagles with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-10 win.
We were a little slow getting started, but then we fell into our groove,” Black Bears coach Angie Carley said. “We had some great serving runs and were playing very aggressively at the net, two things we’ve really been working hard on this year.”
Caragan Thill totaled 11 kills, six digs and five aces while finishing 13-of-14 from the service line. Macy Peterson added 14 digs, eight assists and three aces while finishing 17-of-20 from the service line. Lila Morris amassed six kills, five aces and three digs while finishing 17-of-20 from the service line.
Payton Pederson added six digs, a trio of aces and a kill. Tatum Harvey earned 11 digs. Dixie Morris earned seven assists. Tamra Stoken earned a pair of aces.
The Black Bears travel to face Maplewood Baptist at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a Northern Lights League volleyball matchup.
