Esky tennis team wraps up succcessful season

KINGSFORD — The Escanaba tennis team wrapped up another successful season by finishing as a runner up in the Division 1 U.P. Tennis Finals.

Negaunee won the title with a score of 23 Escanaba was runner-up with a score of 11 and Kingsford was third with a score of 8.

Escanaba reached the four finals matches and came away with the number one singles match with Dawson Williams winning both sets 7-6, 6-4 over Luke Syrjala of Negaunee. The Eskymos came in second in the number two singles and number four singles matches as well as the number three doubles match.

Dawson had an outstanding season going 22-1 on the season with his only loss coming against Luke Syrjala who he was 4-1 against this season.

Sam Rivera finished second at number two singles losing in a hard fought match dropping both sets 2-6, 4-6 against Gavin Saunders.

“We had a very successful season with 35 kids playing we met our goals and look to continue to be strong in the years to come,” said Eskymos coach Tom Penegor.
