Rapid River girls top Hannahville

HANNAHVILLE — The Rapid River girls ended a 34-game losing streak here Thursday, posting a 36-14 triumph over the Hannahville Soaring Eagles.

This marked Rapid River’s first victory since March 24, 2021 when it defeated Mid Peninsula 49-29 in a Division 4 district semifinal at Munising.

“This is a challenge we’ve been working on for a while,” said Rockets’ coach Scott Goodacre. “After struggling in the first two quarters, our girls settled and shots started to fall for us. Their girls were not backing down through the first half, going into halftime they were only down by three (13-10). It was a good night for us as week toward district play.”

All seven players scored for the Rockets (1-13), led by Megan Dausey’s 14 points. Aiyana Semear added seven.

Dezirae Lattergrass hit nine points for the Soaring Eagles, who dropped to 1-9 with the non-conference loss.

Rapid River travels to Stephenson Monday. Hannahville is idle until Feb. 7 when it visits Big Bay de Noc.
