Norse cross country opens at Grayling

GRAYLING, Mich. — Following a two-week delay, the Bay College Norse finally got their cross country season underway in the Kirtland Community College Invitational here Friday.

Sophomore Zach Rose led the men’s team in 34th place, covering the eight-kilometer (five-mile) course in 29 minutes, 13.4 seconds.

The Escanaba graduate was followed by Jahlani Thornton of Detroit in 81st at 33:47, Davin Hill of Dollar Bay 82nd (33:51.2), Jaylen Flaniken of Troy, Mich. 89th (34:19), Tyler Sundling of Rapid River 97th (36:19.6) and Marcus Harris of Brimley 115th (42:13.8).

Lansing Community College, which placed five among the top eight, was crowned team champ with 28 points.

Coleman Clark of Grand Rapids Community College was the individual winner at 26:30.2.

Lindsay Cox represented the Bay women in the 6-K (3.7-mile) race, taking 42nd in 25:27.8.

“Most of the guys did well Lindsay did all right in her first race,” said Bay coach Jim Murtha. “That was a good experience all the way around.”

The Norse resume in the Gene Davis Invitational at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. Oct. 9.
