GARDEN CORNERS — The Big Bay de Noc soccer team duked it out against Mackinac in a downpour Saturday as the Black Bears falling 6-1 to the Lakers.

Mackinac Island started strong, scoring four goals in the first half and shutting out the Black Bears.

“It was the first game of the year for our young team and we learned a lot,” Black Bears coach Alex Ranguette said. “We know what we need to work on, and we‚’ll keep progressing.”

Big Bay clamped down in the second half, holding the Lakers to two goals while scoring one of their own.

Big Bay de Noc hosts Ojibwe Charter Tuesday.
