Rapid River girls fall against Trojans

RAPID RIVER — Putting the basketball through the hoop was difficult for the Rapid River girls here Tuesday night as they dropped a 48-18 basketball decision to the Forest Park Trojans.

The Rockets hit just 7-of-43 field goals in the Skyline Central Conference contest. The Trojans were 16-of-64 from the floor.

“It was night and day from yesterday’s game (a 50-42 loss to Mid Peninsula Monday),” said Rockets’ coach Scott Goodacre. “We had too many miscues, missed assignments and poor shooting. It was just a lackluster performance out of us tonight.”

The Rockets trailed 15-6 after the first quarter and 22-7 at halftime.

Natalie Belanger scored 11 points for the Rockets, who committed 22 turnovers. Mercedes Simmons hit 14 points and Raven Johnson had 10 for the Trojans. They had 14 miscues.

Rapid River (5-11 overall, 5-9 SCC) visits North Central Thursday. Forest Park (7-10 overall, 5-7 league) hosts fifth-ranked North Dickinson Thursday.
