Carney girls extend winning streak to 11

CARNEY — The Carney-Nadeau girls just keep on winning.

The Wolves extended their winning streak to 11 games here Monday night after pulling out a 50-47 basketball victory over Skyline Central Conference foe Stephenson.

The game was tied at 10 after the first quarter and the Wolves led 22-19 at halftime. They extended their lead to 35-29 at the end of the third quarter and built a 10-point lead with a little over two minutes left before holding on for the victory.

“We just kept after it,” C-N coach Ken Linder said. “(Stephenson) played hard, I give them a lot of credit. We just kept working it inside and Giselle Laurila got some good penetration. She had some nice assists and really played a solid overall game.”

Sandra Boulton continued on her tear, leading the Wolves with 21 points and seven rebounds. Tessa Wagner was limited to seven points but contributed nine rebounds and six blocks. Laurila added 12 points for the Wolves (13-3, 11-3 SC), who had 11 turnovers.

“Sandra was just outstanding again tonight,” Linder said. “She’s been phenomenal since we started this win streak. She’s been on a tear.”

Emily Johnson led the Eagles (6-11, 6-7 SC) with 15 points.

C-N, which won the JV contest 30-24, hosts Bark River-Harris Thursday.
