Minor changes in U.P. poll

ESCANABA — Another week, another week of little to no changes in the latest U.P. basketball poll released by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Monday.

Everything remained intact for the top four teams in the Division 1-3 boys. Iron Mountain, which is ranked No. 2 in the state in Division 3, is still the unanimous No. 1, followed by Negaunee, Marquette and Escanaba (5-4). Westwood returned to the poll to replace Munising at No. 5.

Dollar Bay is still the unanimous No. 1 in Division 4, followed by Rudyard, Pickford and Ewen-Trout Creek. Rapid River now holds its own position at No. 5 after being tied with North Central last week. That’s expected to change, however, as the Jets beat the Rockets 66-54 Monday night in Powers.

Unbeaten Menominee is still the unanimous No. 1 in the Division 1-3 girls poll. The Maroons, who are also ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press state poll in Division 2 again, are followed by Westwood, Sault Ste. Marie, Marquette and Negaunee. Escanaba (7-5), which fell to the Maroons 79-52 Monday night, missed the cut by one point for the third consecutive week.

St. Ignace remained No. 1 in Division 4, followed by Ewen-Trout Creek, Baraga, Pickford and North Dickinson.
