Esky gymnasts take fifth in Wis.

VALDERS, Wis. — The Escanaba gymnasts placed fifth among seven schools here Saturday, scoring 114.475 points in the Valders Invitational.

Waupun, Wis. won with 128.825, followed by Medford, Wis. 125.975 and Valders-Manitowoc Roncalli 122.6.

“The girls had a good meet today (Saturday),” said Esky coach Theresa Pascoe. “We had a few falls off beam, but Caitlyn Davenport started us off with a solid routine and no falls.

“I think this is the first in the season for her. The smile on her face when she finished was very awesome. All our tumbling skills are getting stronger with every meet. I’m very proud of the way our girls perform.”

Esky’s Abbie Derouin placed fourth in vault with 8.45 points and uneven bars (7.725) and 10th in all-around (30.975). Maddy Block took sixth on vault (8.35).

Davenport was 13th on beam (7.65). Lizzy Sliva and Derouin shared 13th in floor exercise (7.65), with Sliva 14th in all-around (28.4).

“Lizzy continues to improve on all events,” said Pascoe. “Her tumbling was very impressive with her layout half-turn. I’m very pleased with Abbie’s fourth-place finishes. She is executing her skills with ease. Maddy continues to stay on top of vault with her handspring full. I’m hoping Maddy continues to work on her new floor skill called Arabian (a half-turn front tuck) on floor.”

The Eskymos resume in Saturday’s Antigo, Wis. Invitational.
