Cougars’ boys hang on for second win

EBEN — The Superior Central boys survived major foul trouble here Monday night as they hung on for a 47-43 basketball triumph over the Republic-Michigamme Hawks.

The Cougars led 25-15 at halftime and 28-27 after the third quarter of the non-conference contest.

“We were real patient on offense,” said Cougars’ coach Harry Robbins. “They came out in a full-court press, but we’ve been trying to cut down on turnovers and tried to control the pace of the game. At the start of the fourth quarter we had five players with four fouls and they were in the double-bonus. The kids did a good job in that only one fouled out.”

Parker Maki tossed in 24 points and Kyle Frusti added 10 for the Cougars (2-7), who travel to Stephenson Friday. The Hawks (0-7) visit Ewen-Trout Creek tonight.

“We were real disciplined,” said Robbins. “The kids who came off the bench did a great job in knowing their roles. I think the kids are realizing what varsity basketball is all about.”
