C-N stymied by Munising in second half
MUNISING — A defensive switch stifled the Carney-Nadeau boys here Monday night in a 64-54 basketball loss to Munising.
“They played well,” said C-N coach Paul Polfus. “They switched from a man-to-man to a zone and we got impatient. We didn’t create enough opportunities for ourselves. We have to make sure we maintain our composure for four quarters.”
The Wolves led 34-30 at halftime, but trailed 47-42 after the third quarter of the Skyline Central Conference matchup.
Beau Koffman scored 19 points and Brett LaFord had 15 for the Wolves, who drained 14 3-point shots. Max Baumler collected four of the Wolves’ 12 steals.
Josh Huotari paced the Mustangs with 26 points. Sam Brown added 11.
“(Huotari) did a nice job in transition,” said Polfus. “I thought we shot pretty well. We had our chances in the fourth quarter.”
Munising (10-1 overall, 4-1 SCC) held a 35-29 rebounding advantage and hit 22-of-56 field goals. The Wolves (5-5 overall, 3-4 league) were 24-of-53 from the floor and had 11 turnovers.
The Wolves, who also dropped the JV contest by 10 points, host Superior Central Jan. 28. The Mustangs host Engadine Jan. 27.
