GARDEN CORNERS — Trailing 24-22 at the half, the Big Bay de Noc girls picked up their defense in a huge way and held Maplewood Baptist to just five points in the second half of a 46-29 home basketball triumph Thursday.

The Black Bears had 18 steals in this Northern Lights League contest, 11 of which came in the second half.

Meagan Yonker led Big Bay (4-2, 3-0 NLL) with 19 points, 11 steals and five assists. Alix Bleau chipped in 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while Piper Jones added six points and nine boards.

Big Bay hosst Bay Mills Ojibwe Charter Monday.
