Norse women win to start season 2-0

BATTLE CREEK — The Bay College women overcame an error-filled first half in a 62-59 basketball triumph over the Kellogg Community College Bruins here Saturday to start the season 2-0.

Bay committed 15 turnovers and Kellogg had 13 in the first half.

The contest was tied at 26 at halftime and the Norse led 43-42 after the third quarter.

“I am proud of how our players ground out a win,” said Bay coach Rob Robinson. “Our constant pressure for 40 minutes is what wore them down. We were down eight in the fourth quarter. We could have packed it in and moved on, but our players grinded out a win. As a coach, I couldn’t be more proud.”

Bay hit 43.5 percent of its field goals and was 4-of-9 from 3-point range in the second half. The Norse also held the Bruins to 4-of-15 shooting in the fourth quarter.

Haley Trudell, who hit 4-of-6 from downtown, led the Norse with 16 points. Trisha McGuire scored nine points. Kaitlyn Hardwick had eight points and five rebounds. Holly Wardynski also scoerd eight points.

Audrey De Waters paced the Bruins with 19 points and eight boards. Jessalynn Genier added 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Norse travel to LaCrosse, Wis. to face Western Tech Saturday.
