CARNEY — The Carney-Nadeau volleyball team dominated the Superior Central Cougars here Tuesday 3-0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-13) in Skyline Central Conference action.

The Cougars led early in the first set, but after a serving error into the net, the Wolves found the momentum to stay ahead for the remainder. The Wolves were helped along by a seven-point service run from Haley Ernest and smaller runs from Zoey Poupore and Taylor Kedsch.

“We served it well tonight, and we had a chance to hit the ball — and we did,” Wolves’ coach Steve Kedsch said. “We had last week off, and we really worked on unforced errors. We get a good set, we want to hit it, but if we’ve got a bad set, we want to put it somewhere on the court to make it more difficult for our opponent.”

Superior Central found some rhythm at the end of the set with a kill from Riley Johnson, but only strung together two more points before turning it over.

“I wasn’t unhappy with the way we played, but I think our serve receive let us down,” Cougars’ coach Kris Bray said. “They had good servers, and we let them get too many big runs. Had we cut those in half or not allowed them, the game would have been a lot closer.”

The Wolves (12-2-3, 5-0 SCC) jumped out to a quick lead in the second set. Poupore was the star of the set, finishing it with a 14-point run and an ace on the last point.

“We had some long service runs,” coach Kedsch said. “We had a couple girls really step up tonight. Zoey had a nice run, and Sandra (Boulton) had a nice one in that third set. Sandra’s been struggling a little bit serving, so it was nice to see her break out of it.”

In the third set, Carney raced ahead, and the Cougars didn’t find their footing until the very end.

With Superior Central (1-6) trailing 19-5, a miscue from the Wolves gave possession back to the Cougars. Superior Central used service errors and an ace from Emma Rutter to anchor its play and score seven more points before the Wolves closed the set out with an ace from Jules Thoune.

“One of the things we’ve been working on as a team is keeping up no matter what the score is and realizing that it doesn’t matter what the score is, we can get back into a game,” Bray said. “That was a success for us tonight because we did keep up, and we did get some points back. Now we have to clean up our serve receive, and we’ll get there eventually.”

Carney, which won the jayvee match 25-13, 25-17, travels to Mid Peninsula Thursday while Superior Central hosts North Dickinson.
