Wolverines’ girls sweep Black Bears

ST. NICHOLAS — The Mid Peninsula volleyball team shut out the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears 3-0 (25-7, 25-6, 25-10) here Thursday.

The Wolverines (8-2) kept a tight leash on the Black Bears in each set.

“It was a really clean match tonight,” Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser said. “Everyone got to touch the ball. We did a lot of swinging, and our offense was outstanding.”

Kayser felt the Wolverines did a good job keeping control of the ball.

“We kept the ball on our side of the court with a lot of long service streaks,” she said. “Both Daisy Englund and Chevy Koski had long service runs. We stuck to the basics, and our goal was just to try to swing as much as possible tonight.”

Mid Pen travels to Forest Park Tuesday while Big Bay hosts Rapid River.

The summary:

Aces — K. Englund 10, Koski 7, D. Englund 6, Prater 1, Paulsen 1; kills — K. Englund 10, Croasdell 6, Koski 4, Prater 2, D. Englund 1; blocks — K. Englund 1; assists — D. Englund 19, Croasdell 1; digs — Paulsen 5, K. Englund 4, Croasdell 4, Prater 1, Koski 1.
