Wolves top Nordics, 3-1

FELCH — The Carney-Nadeau volleyball team earned a win on the road here Thursday against the North Dickinson Nordics 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17) in a Skyline Central Conference match-up.

The Nordics came out in the first set with energy and momentum. The Wolves (5-1-3) mounted a charge late in the set, but it ended up being too little, too late.

“(After the first set), I just challenged the girls to communicate and play harder,” Wolves’ coach Steve Kedsch said. “Our opponent tonight was a very good defensive team, but at least we were gaining momentum for the second set.”

Carney found its footing in the next three sets.

“One of the things we did in the last three sets was pick our shots more,” Kedsch said.

“In the first set we were just trying to hit the ball every time we could. We felt like we were in pretty good control (in the last sets). The way (the Nordics) were playing defense, we just didn’t want to let up.

“It was good to see after that first set that they could pull through as team.”

Carney, which lost the jayvee match 2-0, hosts Bark River-Harris Tuesday.
