ESCANABA — Three former inductees into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame have died in recent weeks.

Joell (Johnson) Krejcarek, a native of Carlshend, died Friday in Harrisville, Mich, near Alpena. Krejcarek, 74, was inducted into the UPSHF in 2012. Survivors include her husband Don and brothers Dan and Ardy Johnson of Carlshend.

She started the girls basketball program at Lincoln Alcona High School in 1966 and compiled a 392-215 record. She also started girls softball (1973), track (1968) and volleyball (1990) at Alcona.

John Ludlow, a native of Newberry, died two weeks ago. The 1996 UPSHF inductee was a four-sport letterman at Newberry before playing football at West Point Academy, helping the Cadets to the 1944 national football championship.

Ludlow was on the athletic council at Northern Michigan University and a faculty representative to the Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference and the GLIAC.

The Hall of Fame also lost another inductee when former Stanford University and Denver Broncos coach John Ralston of Norway died Sept. 15.
