District tournaments come to Escanaba

ESCANABA — The District 10 Little League 9-10 year old baseball and softball district championships will be decided next week in Escanaba.

The 9-10 Little League softball double-elimination finals start Sunday at Lemerand Park.

In the 2 p.m. opener, defending district champion Escanaba hosts Kingsford.

The winner plays Norway Monday at 6, and the championship game is set for Wednesday.The district champ advances to the state championship games in downstate Marysville by Port Huron July 25, where it will play in pool play along with the Midland area winner, the Alpena/Soo area winner, and the Bay City/Essexville/Hampton district winner.

The baseball finals begin Thursday at Karl Dickson field with a doubleheader beginning at 5 and 7. Four teams advance out of the area tournament to the district finals. Two teams will be undefeated and two more will carry one-loss records to the championship. There will be games Friday with the championship Saturday and an if game Sunday.

The district champ advances to the state finals in downstate Dexter by Jackson Thursday, Aug. 1, where it will play Friday against the Mattawan/Dowagiac/Edwardsburg winner from the District 15 area.
