Rockets sweep
RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River Rockets extended their winning streak to six games here Tuesday, sweeping to 9-5 and 5-3 softball victories over the Calumet Copper Kings.
Natalie Belanger struck out six, walked two and allowed seven hits in the opener.
Madie LaChance had two hits, drove in two runs and scored a run. Ellie Moberg added a hit, an RBI and scored twice.
In the second game, Belanger fanned three, walked one and gave up seven hits.
Riley Edwardsen got a hit and two RBIs. Kristen Goodacre had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs.
“This team has been trying to find itself all season,” said Rockets’ coach George Kanyuh. “To finish the year with a six-game winning streak, beating some good teams with solid pitching, solid hitting and a big improvement on defense puts us in a great position mentally with some confidence heading into the (Division 4) districts Friday.”
The Rockets host Bark River-Harris in their opener at noon. Stephenson and Norway meet at 2 p.m. followed by the championship game at 4.
