Rockets sweep

EBEN — The Rapid River softball team got back on track with a sweep of Superior Central here Thursday. The Rockets won the opener 16-7 and the nightcap 16-0 in five innings.

Natalie Belanger earned the win in the opener, allowing just one run on two hits while walking one and striking out eight. Cecilia Pilon threw the final three innings, surrendering six runs on four hits while fanning four.

Kristen Goodacre collected four hits, including a solo home run. Jaden Schwartz also hit a solo shot, while Belanger had three hits and Ellie Moberg added two hits.

Belanger threw all five innings for the win in the nightcap, giving up no runs, three hits, two walks and striking out seven.

Schwartz had a bases-loaded triple and another solo home run. Moberg added three hits, including two doubles.

“We haven’t played a game in over a week, and we came out a little flat in game one,” Rockets’ coach George Kanyuh said. “Once the team got their mojo going they finished the night strong.”

The Rockets host Sault Ste. Marie for a doubleheader today at 2:30 p.m.
