Hannahville boys’ cagers get split

BAY MILLS — The Hannahville boys gained a split in their weekend series with Ojibwe Charter Saturday, posting a 57-45 basketball triumph.

Hannahville, which dropped a 63-60 decision Friday night, trailed 24-21 at halftime of Saturday’s Northern Lights League match-up.

“Friday was a real good game,” said Hannahville coach Mark Gauthier. “Both teams played hard, only we shot a low percentage. We were able get them in foul trouble, which was a key in Saturday’s game. Overall, we were able execute the way we wanted.”

Damon Sagataw scored 19 points and Mason Thunder added 10 for the Soaring Eagles (8-6 overall, 5-4 NLL). Mark Harmon paced Ojibwe with 13 points. James Adkins hit 11 and Richard Willis had 10.

“Damon probably played his best game of the year,” said Gauthier.

“His decision making was good and Mason and Joe (Larson) played real good defense.”

Hannahville’s girls lost 49-13 Saturday and 49-14 Friday.

The Soaring Eagles host Big Bay de Noc Tuesday.
