MANISTIQUE — Manistique’s girls basketball game at Iron Mountain and swim meet at Westwood were postponed due to weather. It hasn’t been decided if these events will be made up.

POWERS — North Central’s girls basketball team will play at North Dickinson Feb. 6. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed due to weather.

Tech quints sweep

HAMMOND, Ind. — The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team rallied for a 75-67 GLIAC win here Thursday over Purdue Northwest. The Huskies trailed 41-23 at the beginning of the second half, but took a 69-67 lead with 51 seconds left before icing the game at the free throw line.

The Pride (6-14, 2-10 GLIAC) led 36-23 at the half.

Trent Bell gave the Huskies (10-9, 5-7 GLIAC) a 66-64 lead on a layup with 2:25 left in the game.

Bryan Heath led the Huskies with 17 points. Dawson Bilski of North Central High School followed with 15 points and a team high six rebounds while Isaac Appleby had 14 points, four assists and four steals. Bell chipped in 12 points and Owen White had 11.

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team held off Purdue Northwest for a 67-49 GLIAC win. The Huskies outscored the Pride 23-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Elizabeth Kelliher led the Huskies with a season-high 21 points, six rebounds and blocked a season best five shots. Cassidy Trotter chipped in with 14 points and six steals.

The Huskies visit Parkside Saturday.

NMU quint swept

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team visited Wisconsin Parkside for GLIAC action here Thursday and fell to the Rangers 71-65 in overtime.

Parkside scored first in the overtime period and rushed out to take a 62-56 lead, and the Wildcats (11-8, 6-6 GLIAC) couldn’t recover.

Senior Isaiah Johnson led the Wildcats with 21 points, five rebounds and four steals. Senior Naba Echols had 18 points. Redshirt freshman Troy Summers put up career-highs with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Senior Darby Youngstrom had a career-high 21 points and five rebounds to lead the Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team, but the Wildcats fell to the Rangers 72-64 in GLIAC action.

Sophomore Lexi Smith chipped in with 13 points, while sophomore Elizabeth Lutz had 12.

The Rangers pushed grabbed a 28-15 lead with four minutes to go in the first half and the Wildcats (14-6, 9-3 GLIAC) couldn’t recover.
