Wagner sparkles for C-N

CARNEY — Tessa Wagner recorded a triple-double Friday night, helping the Carney-Nadeau girls post a 52-47 basketball triumph over the North Dickinson Nordics.

The 6-foot-2 freshman center finished with 18 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Sandra Boulton added 12 points.

“It was nice to see Tessa kind of settle down inside,” said C-N coach Kris Blahnik. “She got stronger in this game and did good for us.”

Brianna Smith scored 20 points, including 11 in the second quarter, for the Nordics.

The Wolves led 16-7 after the first quarter, but the Nordics climbed within 26-25 at halftime of the Skyline Central Conference match-up.

“We started pretty strong, then Brianna got hot in the second quarter,” said Blahnik. “We switched our defense and took them out of their rhythm in the second half. We made them adjust a little.”

The Wolves (3-1 overall, 2-1 SCC) hit 32 percent of their field goals and had 24 turnovers.

C-N, which also won the jayvee game 50-41, visits Norway Tuesday. The Nordics (2-2 overall, 1-2 league) head to Big Bay de Noc Tuesday.
