Stephenson triples help spill Broncos

STEPHENSON – Stephenson hit nine three-pointers and forced Bark-River Harris into 34 turnovers in a 62-51 Skyline Central Conference boys basketball home victory here Friday.

BR-H led at halftime 29-25 and were led in scoring by Hunter Debelak with 10 and Carter Zawacki with nine in the first half.

The Eagles (1-4) came roaring back and outscored the Broncos 22-12 in the third quarter, and 39-22 in the second half for the victory.

Stephenson was led by Carter Thoune with 17 points and he hit three, 3-point field goals to lead the winners.

Joey Starzinski scored 14 and hit two 3-pointers for the Eagles.

Zawacki led BR-H in scoring with 15 and Debelak scored 12 for the Broncos.

“We have to start playing two halves of basketball,” said BR-H coach Mark Zawacki.

It was a fast-paced game and were trading turnovers with them in the third. It came down to the turnovers and they were the big thing with us forcing the ball at the wrong time and to the wrong spot. They (Stephenson) started to really heat up in the third quarter hitting three-pointers. They played us tough.”

BR-H (3-3) plays next at Big Bay de Noc Friday.
