Hebert, Nelson cop racing titles

GLADSTONE — Chris Hebert of Norway topped a field of 47 runners in the first MISH Waterfront Fall 10-kilometer run Saturday, covering the 6.2-mile course in a personal-best 44 minues, 55 seconds.

He was followed by Pat Alworden of Gladstone (46:21) and Nick Kasbohm of Carney (48:47).

“I had a good day,” said Hebert. “I focused on what I had to do and felt pretty good out there. I like the course. We had nice weather for the race.”

Erica Nelson of Marquette took the women’s title at 46:57, followed by Laurie Alworden of Gladstone (49:52) and Shannon Viau of Escanaba (52:59).

Carney-Nadeau boys basketball coach Jake Polfus of Carney earned top honors in the 5-K at 17:55. He was followed by Jake Denkins of Rapid River (19:03) and Gary Whitmer of Gladstone (19:18).

Katie Ross of Iron Mountain paced the women in 22:21, followed by Escanaba residents Danielle Artley (23:09) and Jamie Grabowski (25:25).

There were 59 finishers in the 5-K.

Runners were greeted with cloudy conditions and temperatures near 50.
