Braves’ Bruce has another XC award

Senior is U.P. large division top harrier

ISHPEMING — Gladstone senior Adam Bruce and Negaunee junior Emily Paupore had stellar cross country seasons and were rewarded for their efforts during the annual fall meeting of the Upper Peninsula Cross Country Coaches’ Association Thursday.

Bruce was selected Male Runner of the Year after taking his first U.P. Division 1 and Great Northern Conference title and his second straight Mid-Peninsula Conference crown.

Also nominated was Gogebic senior Uriah Aili, who was crowned U.P. D-2 and Copper Mountain Conference champion for the first time.

Paupore, a unanimous choice for Female Runner of Year, retained her U.P. D-1 and M-PC titles and captured her first WestPAC Conference championship.

Joining her on the Dream Team were Marquette junior Ericka Asmus, St. Ignace senior Elizabeth Becker, Munising senior Madeleine Peramaki, Houghton senior Anabel Needham, Sault Ste. Marie sophomore Haleigh Knowles, Chassell senior Lela Rautiola and Superior Central junior and U.P. D-3 champion Danika Walters.

Becker was crowned U.P. D-2, Straits Area and Eastern U.P. Conference champion. Walters copped her first Skyline Central Conference title and Carey took the Indianhead Conference title.

Joining Bruce and Aili on the boys’ Dream Team were Ishpeming senior Spencer Giroux, Gogebic senior Devon Byers, Houghton junior Joe Wood, Brimley junior Austin Plotkin and Cedarville junior Thomas Bohn.

Plotkin, who kept his D-3 crown, also won SAC and EUP titles.

Ishpeming, fresh from completing its first perfect season in school history, earned Large School Team of the Year honors and Chassell was selected Small School Team of the Year.

The Sault girls were picked Large School Team of the Year after taking their second D-1 title in three years and winning the SAC. Hancock, which won D-2 for the first time in five years, was tabbed Small School Team of the Year.

Those receiving Coach of the Year honors were Sault’s Jim Martin (D-1), Hancock’s Matt Dennis (D-2) and Chassell’s Marco Guidotti (D-3). Brimley’s Scout Hester was also nominated in D-3.

Other area all-state recipients were Gladstone’s Jake Stasler and Giovanni Mathews in D-1 boys, Manistique’s Alex Misniakiewicz (D-2 boys) and Mid Peninsula’s Daisy Englund and Landry Koski (D-3 girls).
