RAPID RIVER — The North Dickinson Nordics won a competitive sweep over the Rapid River Rockets here Tuesday. The 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) victory spoiled parent’s night for the Rockets.

Samantha Borvan was the star of the show for the Nordics, (5-4) with 11 kills and a big night serving.

“Sammy did a great job serving,” Nordics coach Sandy Haustein said.

“She’s one of the strongest servers I’ve ever been around.”

The first game went back and forth before the Nordics were able to put the Rockets away.

Rapid River was in postion to bounce back in the second game, with the game being tied at 16. North Dickinson then ran off nine of the last 10 points to win handily.

Then in the third game the Rockets held a 22-18 lead before the Nordics rallied to complete the sweep.

“Give them a lot of credit,” Haustein said. “They kept coming back at us and made us have to work for it. I thought we lacked communication at times but did a good job of digging up balls and that helped us in a big way.”

Each game was competitive throughout, but the Nordics just found a way to make the plays when it mattered.”

“They’re a scrappy team,” Rockets assistant Mike Mohler said.

“They always do a great job serving, and their passes to set up their tipping game are excellent. We missed a few opportunities we’d like to have back but that’s just how it goes. They showed us a few different looks to change things up.”

Cassidy Berg led the Rockets in digs with 18, while Ellie Moberg and Addie Christoff each had 10. Jenna Rubick also had a strong game, recording 17 assists to go with five digs and two kills.

Rapid River returns to action Thursday at Superior Central.
