Esky tennis 4-4 draw with Iron Mountain

Esky tennis player Jacey Moreau against Iron Mountain Monday.

ESCANABA — The Escanaba and Iron Mountain girls tennis teams split the singles and doubles matches evenly to finish a 4-4 draw here Monday. It was the final tuneup for the Eskymos before they host the Great Northern Conference finals Wednesday.

Jacey Moreau and Ukiah Penegor posted singles victories for Esky while Allison Sommers-Maddy Ide and Laura Sliva-Anna Branstrom claimed doubles wins.

“Even where we lost, we fought out close matches,” said Esky coach Chris Ogren. “Heather Bergstrom played a flawless second set despite a loss (at No. 1) and Maddy Mishica fought hard in both sets but came up short.”

The Eskymos were missing JHess Koish at No. 3 doubles so Brianna O’Driscoll stepped in and “played in a very competitive three-set match with partner Renee Perrault,” said Ogren.
