Simon accepts coaching spot
MARINETTE — A former Stephenson High School basketball standout is taking over a new coaching position.
Mark Simon has been hired as girls basketball coach at St. Thomas Aquinas (formerly Catholic Central). He replaces the father-son tandem of John and David Corry, who led the Cavaliers the past two seasons.
Simon played for Escanaba native Paul Miller when Stephenson won the 1981 Class C state championship. He then played basketball at Northern Michigan University.
Simon was coach of the Stephenson girls basketball team that finished 20-3 in 2014. His son, Joe, is a former boys basketball coach at Stephenson.
Catholic Central won six straight Class B girls basketball WISAA state championships in the 1990’s under UPSHF inductee Ron “Satch” Englund.
