Nagy falls back in T of C title defense
BOYNE FALLS — Defending champion Mike Nagy of Manistique fired a 3-under-par 69 Tuesday but still fell back at the Michigan Tournament of Champions at Boyne Mountain Resort.
Eric Lilleboe, a mini-tour professional from Okemos, created that separation by posting a 6-under-66 on the Monument Course to take a one stroke lead into today’s final round. An eagle-3 on the 14th hole helped Lilleboe pull ahead.
He is a stroke beyond former Michigan State University golfer Sam Weatherhead of Grand Rapids in the 27th annual event. Weatherhead also carded a 66 and is at 133.
Mini-tour player Randy Hutchison of Traverse City is third at 134. He also hit 66 Tuesday.
Nagy is among three at 139, along with reigning Michigan Open champion Jake Kneen of White Lake. Meadowbrook Country Club pro Travis Dodson is also at 139.
Former champion Scott Hebert of Traverse City, an Escanaba native, dropped out of contention Tuesday after shooting 75. He is at 144.
